I have a 2003 Ford Focus zx3 2.3 litre, when it idle's it cuts but when you raise the rpm's it smooth's out what do you think it the speed idle sensor, if so how do you check it?

Check for vacuum leaks and the idle air control valve. Remove the valve and have a helper cycle the ignition switch on and off. You should be able to see the pintal move

Where is the idle control valve at? Is there anyway of checking it without removing it?
