We just had a tune-up about 2 months ago for our car, and we've been keeping up with the maintenance and oil changes. The other day our car stopped functioning completely. We took the car to the same mechanics we've been going to, (thought we could trust) and we were told we need a new transmission and converter, and the job costs $1800. I feel we're getting screwed over. How could our transmission have blown if we just had a tune-up and never had any other major mechanical problems. 2003 Focus.

WHAT WAS THE FAILURE ATTRIBUTED TO?

MY "NELSOMATIC PHILOSOPHY" HAS NOT ALWAYS BEEN--BUT NOW IS. THRU TIME AND EXPERIENCE!

"NO ONE CARES ABOUT MY STUFF, MORE THAN I DO"

EVER WONDER WHY THE PILOT GOES THRU A CHECKLIST AND INSPECTION, EVERY, EVERY, EVERY TIME BEFORE HE CLIMBS INTO THE BIRD AND CRANKS IT UP?

HE'S REALLY NOT CONCERNED ABOUT YOU, AS MUCH, AS HE IS, ABOUT HIS "STUFF"!

HE'S ON THERE TOO!

WELL. THE FELLER CHANGING YOUR FLUIDS, AIN'T RIDIN' ACROSS THE SAHARA DESERT WITH YOU. SO MAYBE HE'S NOT REAL CONCERNED. MAYBE HE WAS TEXTING TO HIS WOMAN, WHO JUST THROWED ALL HIS "STUFF" INTO THE GARBAGE TRUCK. WHO KNOWS!

ANYTIME YOU HAVE THINGS LIKE THIS DONE----AT MINIMUM, PULL THE DIPSTICKS, CHECK LEVELS, OBSERVE THE FLUID COLORS. WITHIN YOUR MEANS (DIFFERENTIAL, AND SUCH, YOU MAY HAVE TO HOPE FOR THE BEST!)

PARK ON "WHITE" CONCRETE, REMEMBER TO WALK AROUND AND INSPECT FOR LEAKS, BEFORE YOU DRIVE AWAY!

MY FRIEND WITH A SCRAMBLE, JEEP CJ-8, HAD "EVERYTHING" DONE

I WAS SURPRISED THAT THERE WAS NO OIL RESIDUE BELOW HIS DIFFERENTIAL COVERS.I BET HIM $50, IT WAS NOT PROPERLY DONE!

HE CALLED THEM, THEY SAID THEY S. UCKED THE FLUID OUT OF THE FILL HOLES

NOT SATISFIED HE HAD BEEN DONE RIGHT, I TOLD HIM I WOULD RE-DO THE DIFFS. FOR FREE. IF THEY WERE RIGHT, IF WRONG, I GOT MY $50 AND MY FLUID COSTS BACK.

HE BIT!

I PULLED THE COVERS ON BOTH DIFFS, CAUGHT THE JUICE IN A PAN

YES, THERE WAS NEW FLUID

YES, OIL FLOATS.I RELEASED ABOUT A QUART OF WATER FROM EACH DIFF. ALONG WITH IT.

HE DID GET A REFUND, AFTER MUCH WHINING. SOME PLACES SLUFF YOU OFF, EVEN IF IT WAS THEIR FAULT!

I GOT MY $$$, TOO, AFTER MUCH WHINING!

SOME PEOPLE DON'T KNOW HOW TO WHINE ENOUGH OR CORRECTLY---I LABEL THEM AS THE ONES WHO GOT S. CREWED IN THE END!

MORAL OF MY STORY IS OBVIOUS

YOU MUST LOOK OUT FOR YOURSELF, TO THE UTMOST BEST OF YOUR ABILITY!

YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL (IT TALKS TO "YOU", NOT "FRED", UNDER THE GREASE RACK), SAYS ON YOUR OIL INSPECTION. IT SHOULD BE DONE AT <<>>, ONCE A WEEK. BAD THINGS CAN OCCUR, BY SECOND. CAN'T WAIT FOR FRED TO CHECK IT IN 4500 MILES, AT THE NEXT CHANGE!

NOT TRYING TO MAKE YOU MAD.I JUST SEE WAY TOO MANY THINGS THAT COULD/ SHOULD BE AVOIDED

INVESTIGATE THE JEEP CJ 5 & 7 FORUMS, MY HAPPY PLACE! I DO ALL I AM CAPABLE TO ASSIST THEM (SO WONDERFUL, THEY SELDOM BREAK!) I MUST VENTURE INTO THE "CAR WORLD" TO HELP SOMEONE ELSE, AT SLACK TIMES!

LET ME KNOW IF THIS HELPED ANY

I WILL RESPOND, IF YOU FURTHER NEED ME. GET THE MOST OUTTA THAT QUARTER!

Transmissions are quite complex and can stop working at any time with no warning. A tune has nothing to do with trans operation. You can get a second diagnosis
