Many times the compressor will not turn because the "Low Pressure Switch" breaks the circuit.
It may just need some gas. Cross your fingers!
This is caused by being low on gas
Other factors may cause it not to engage.I'm not a A/C technician.
One's I have dealt with, will cycle on and off, until they are properly topped off.
You need someone "Experienced" with a set of HVAC gauges to check it, and maybe look for where your gas disappeared to!
Crankin' some in, from the auto parts store, may do more damage than good, if you are not experienced in how to correctly do it!
This would be your starting point, CHECK YOUR GAS!
