stick shift is difficult to move

I have a ford explorer 4x4 '03 160,000 approx.when i turned it on every thing it's ok but when i'm trying to move the stick lever to drive the stick lever or lever it is so hard like if it is lock can you tell me the possibilities why this is happening! when i move the stick or lever to drive it so hard and it 4 times that it shows that problem.
