engine is sputtering but not stalling

I have a 03 ford explorer that will cut out between 55 and 60, almost like it is trying to shift into overdrive. The motor does not quit, however I have to feather the gas to stop it from cutting out. I replaced the plugs, and battery, so at that point the computer got reset.
