Told by my wife, Why don't you get an Older-Nice Looking 4X4, straight drive--Something Somewhat EZ to work on if need-be."Like a Jeep?"

Well she had to have this 2003 FORD ESCAPE-Frt WD. She said it would work well in the snow when we had some (I know better, I've been a Jeep CJ Guy since 1981, on my 7th. When I got my drivers license)

Well we seldom get snow, and when we do----The entire State is disabled, it's best to remain home, cause nothing gets cleared in like. Forever

All we have is Ditches full of vehicles and "KAMIKAZE KARS" (IDIOTS WITHIN, DRIVING TOO FAST) Coming at you sideways

This is where the wife comes in. My "WARM JEEP", CJ5, just so happens to have a Transfer case issue now, and it will be a week or so to get him up and going."Willy", my '46. Is an Army Jeep w/Top--No Doors or sides (Refuses to ride in it, might get cold. But it will get there. Anywhere!)

Seems that Grand-Youngin's Birthday, SUPERSEDES ALL SAFETY WARNINGS. From me or other sources!

Ever heard stuff like this.I'M GOING OVER THERE, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT! (10 MILES, IN VIRGIN SNOW AND ICE.6 INCHES). BY MYSELF, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO STOP ME. HE NEEDS HIS MEMA ON HIS BIRTHDAY.

HERES WHERE I COME IN!----Subliminally Suckered in! (She cannot drive in "Perfect Conditions" much less crappy)

10 miles away."I" (catch that?)Was stuck in her Escape, on a gravel well surfaced loop driveway with 6" of snow and ice.

I managed to fight my way out, but there was some Extremely Serious FORWARD and REVERSE ACTION GOING ON!

The POOR Little Piece of "Aluminum" was driving OK for the next couple of days

Now It seems to move FWD fine, But it Over RPMs, in reverse (Does move!)--Is this a band, or have "I" smoked some clutches or something

What must "I" (catch that again?)Do to maybe inexpensively "Make It Better"

I saw no Obvious Dangling Stuff, and it's maybe 1/4 to 1/2 Quart low on Tranny Juice (I really don't think thats the issue!)

I am mechanical/ have much mechanics tooling and have the Haynes Repair Manual.I am a Plumbing Technician, with older vehicle experience

PLEASE PERFORM MAGIC---SHAKE ME AND WAKE ME UP!

Please sorta hang with me, if I can fix this myself. Evil Female seldom hold my hand, CAN YOU MAYBE HOLD MINE, TILL IT'S FIXED!

The Medic

That's it, Hiding back behind my "REAL VEHICLE" (he's on a "BREAK" right now, but should be EZ to fix, when my parts arrive)

Seems I have all of the Luck!

'Least I can still "Pop-Sickle Around" in "Willy"

I can handle the "Set-Back" you see on the floor.

Can you handle the Aluminum Crate, I know little about?

Multiple Answer-ers Are Welcome!

Ya'll have been good to me since I started here!

I DO HAVE ACTRON, LOWER END, CODE SCANNER. MERLIN2021 TOLD ME IT WILL ONLY SCAN CERTAIN CODES.I HAVE FOUND IT WILL DO "PO999s" (ex) BOOK EXPLAINS THOSE STARTING "P0", BUT IF I GET A "P1999" BOOK DOES NOT COVER THE "P1"---HAVE I CONFUSED YOU.I WILL SHUT UP AND LISTEN NOW

NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

"LOW COOLANT LIGHT" WAS ON---1 CUP OF RADIATOR JUICE TURNED IT OFF----SAW NO EVIDENCE OF RADIATOR JUICE IN THE TRANNY FLUID

The references I have checked show no faults relating to the reverse overspeed issue, the fluid level and condition need to be checked so that can be eliminated from the equation. At this time, the symptom flowchart does not have a "do this when that happens" area that deals with the issue you state. This automatic transmission is electronically controlled and if there were something wrong that was in the realm of repairable by you, then it would be possible to extract that fault and move towards a solution. This brings us to the place where you may need to seek out someone that has a scan tool that can interface with the transmission and offer more information than a budget handheld "lower end" scan tool can give us.

Evil Female informed me that when she drove it to work (8 hours after "I" messed it up) That the?LCD Square with rounded corners? That ENCIRCLES the Shifter's position P-R-N-D-2-1 Was missing when she went to work (counted notches to get in positions) When she drove it home it was back!

I have a Good "Repore" with a feller at Autozone (I frequent all the parts houses to keep good standing) I know their scanner is much more capable than mine ("Santa Mike" at 2carfellers sent me mine, for being a GOOD BOY!).I do not know if it will extract the info you need. But I will find out!

WHAT CODES, EXACTLY ARE WE LOOKING FOR. WHAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF ONE. FOR INSTANCE "FUBAR101" OR "TOO77"?

Due to the fact I had to kick "WILLY" out in the cold, to Work on "Mr. Jeep's" transfer case.I will let her attempt to drive the Escape to work (if it will make it). If Autozone is capable, I will uncover "Willy" and drive to her work, and get take it for coding.

Of course, it's probably gonna leave one of us afoot!

The A/C Blend door is Closed Now, But you see what I will have to endureImma Airborne Ranger ('82-'87) I have endured worse, My RANGER TAB WILL KEEP ME WARM!

I would see if the scan turns up anything before doing anything to compromise the possible faults that are set, they are part of the investigative procedure, dont screw with them yet.

All Righty then!

Went to a shop, feller hooked up the Aluminum Can Escape to his "High Speed", "Snap-on" "Brick"

25 minutes later and only able to barely reverse on level ground (It laughed, as we begged it to back up an ever so slight incline!)

The feller said, "Ain't throwin' no codes"

He sent me over to a Reputable Tranny Shop.........Looks as if one maybe 2 reverse clutches may be burned up.

Estimate is $1600-$1700

Looks like Imma gonna have to force myself on a Plumbing Service Company.........She's gonna have to drive Lil' Red (My "Energizer Bunny" $250 Neon)......."Willy" and "I will have to make do, till "I" (Catch that again?) get Mr. Jeep roadworthy (I got that covered, no problem....I am CJ MEDEVAC!, it's just that my bird crashed this time!)

I will be getting a Workers Comp settlement in the future, Was out of work for nearly 2 years!........Just do not know when, or how much for my foot...........Sad, For some reason they say, they need me no more (lack of work).........Maybe a different, silent reason........Who knows, Someone around here needs the "Best Plumbing Service Technician This Side of the Mississippi!"

Thanks for the help

I was grasping for straws, and pretty much already knew it! Thought maybe there was a secret adjusting screw that I coulda turned!

I'll be bumping into you on here, I'm sure!

Get you a CJ, I'll help you with it!.....I watch the CJ5 & 7 Forums like a Buzzard!

Wanna see me in action?

Found really cool tranny man--$1400 complete rebuild, torque converter, update valve body

Reverse was shot!

He drilled updated larger holes into the Valve-body

Total rebuild

I watched some of it, he showed me a pump that had a torn seal, said it contributed to the disaster.

Our little "Jerk" from time to time, may have been the "lock-up" in the torque converter. Which was also replaced

How can they cram so much crap into a aluminum housing!

Jeep is back up and running. So at least 2 Real Dependable rigs are on the road, along with her Escape and our spare Neon

He even watched my step by step, "Nelsomatic Slideshow" tranny and transfer-case rebuild on my laptop. Said it was perfection, and asked if I might aid him sometimes (jokingly!)

So thanks for the attempt on helping me, after he pulled parts 25-84,657 out of it, it was way beyond my capabilities!

Well, was that inexpensive compared to others (overall) doing that task?

How you been getting along Doc?
