start with a compression test. then you may have to remove the valve cover to inspect the valve train.

1) SOUNDS LIKE A SPARK PLUG CAME UNSCREWED AND BLEW OUT---POWER LOSS? OR SKIP?....THIS SOUND CONTINUES
2) SEE IF A/C STILL WORKS---I'VE SEEN 'EM OVERCHARGED AND THE SAFETY VALVE RELEASE....USUALLY THIS SOUND STOPS REAL SOON
