At the bottom of my bell housing on the transmission it seems as if the gasket may be broke or there is a small gap where it mounts to the back of the engine I'm trying to see if I can fix it temporarily to see if anything else is wrong with my transmission and I was wondering if rtv sealant would work better or if I should use in weld

There is nothing that should be sealed there. That is open air. If you are seeing a leak in that area, it is coming from above somewhere like a rear main seal or oil pan gasket.
