My catalytic convertor is going out makes loud noises after driving a while.
This is California The convertor is discontinued and if it was available it costs $1400.00

What kind of noise are you referring to? If it's a roaring noise, that's a leak that can often be welded, or cracked pipes can be replaced. If it's a rattle, there is a possible fix for that as long as it still passes emissions.
