leaking fluid

took it to transmission shop they said shift box on side of tranny is leaking,they also dropped the pan and said tranny is gone, too much shavings in pan the planetary pin is about to break" it runs perfect when full of fluid, should i get another opinion?

where you having shifting problems? I believe the gasket under the solenoid pack are known to leak, Get the leak fixed and drive it.

shifting problems only when fluid is low other than that runs fine

Low fluid level will affect operation, get the leak fixed and all should be good.
