trying to position power steering pump out of the way to remove alternator.pump does not want to come out ,upward.

do not need to remove the pupm for this.

loosen the cradle bolts under the van and let the motor sag down and the alternator comes right out

the pump, the lines need to be released in order for the pump to be removed.
