I REALLY DON'T THINK THAT IF IT WERE CLOGGED, IT WOULD BE 100%. MOST LIKELY IT WOULD BE RESTRICTED SOMEWHAT, AND WATER/ COOLANT WOULD STILL GO THRU THE VANES--JUST AT A SLOWER SPEED. THE TOTAL DISPLACEMENT OF FLUID, DUE TO BUILD UP, WOULD MOST LIKELY BE LESS THAN 1/2 A CUP. PROBABLY EVEN LESS THAN THAT!
IT WOULD PROBABLY NOT BE AN ACCURATE WAY TO SUBTRACT ONE FROM THE OTHER. USUALLY THE CAPACITY IS NOT A PERFECT SCIENCE (DO THEY MEASURE UP TO OVERFLOW? OR ALLOW AIRSPACE BELOW THAT?), MOST LIKELY YOUR RESULTS WOULD BE WAY OFF, YOU MAY GET A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY.
THE BEST THING YOU COULD DO IS HAVE IT "PROFESSIONALLY FLUSHED" (TAKEN APART AND RODDED OUT)---NOT AN AUTO PARTS STORE "POUR IT IN, RINSE IT OUT FLUSH". THESE JUST DON'T SEEM TO LIVE UP TO THEIR PROMISES.
YOUR VEHICLE IS NINE OR SO YEARS OLD---IT PROBABLY DESERVES TO HAVE THIS DONE RIGHT ANYWAY!
OBVIOUSLY, YOU MUST BE HAVING A POSSIBLE "OVERHEAT ISSUE"
IN SUPER DETAIL, WHAT IS IT DOING, HOW QUICK, IS IT JUST YOUR GAUGE SHOWING HOT, DO THE FAN(S) COME ON, THERMOSTAT BEEN CHANGED, ETC. ETC?
HAS IT REALLY OVERHEATED? HOW LONG BEFORE YOU STOPPED?----OR THE GAUGE JUST SAYS IT IS?
WE MAY CAN OFFER SUGGESTIONS
