2003 Chevrolet Silverado Possable Newly Installed Upper Ball Joint Become

Is it possable for a newly installed upper ball joint to become unpressed from the upper control arm and break the snap ring causing the upper control arm to rest directly on the knuckle. This happened to me but I'm thinking the snap ring was never installed. Pics below

I would think the snap ring wasn't installed or not correcty so it left then the ball joint came out.
