An air filter is an element that filters the air before it's ingested by the engine. An air breather is a smaller version but used to vent air out of something so pressure/vacuum doesn't build up. This is usually used on valve covers. But you're engine shouldn't have one. If it does, then it was modified and won't pass emissions tests.
