Three weeks ago I had the transmission replaced on my vehicle. Now I am getting a roaring noise and the light comes on saying battery is not charging with a code of P1637

Sounds like a bad alternator. With the engine running, put a voltmeter across the battery. You should see in the area of 13.8 V.
