I have a 2003 S10 Crew cab Truck every time I start the motor after at least 1 hour to over night the hydraulic lifters clatter? The oil is the right type 5w-30, just changed, I put new oil filter also the right one. The lifter in the front left ( as I am seated in truck ) takes the longest to quiet down. Ever since this started happening I loose transmission & Engine coolant liquid and none found on the ground ( I have put clean cardboard under truck ).

The lifter is hydraulic and is either crushed and can't pump up or it is clogged and can't pump up. However, the overheating may be a head gasket leak, but I am not sure if that would affect lifter in such a manner. Check the coolant level to see if it is low and how fast it gets low. If you are experiencing smoke out of the exhaust or poor performance, it may be a head gasket leak.

The thermostat might be stuck open. This would cause the viscosity of the oil to stay thicker longer and therefore the lifter would take longer to pump up. Lifters have very small feed and drain holes, so viscosity has a big affect on them.
