Need to get the timing set after a gasket overhaul. Cannot find the timing mark on the vehicle. We have put it to top dead center but turing till the #1 piston came up to the top and turning the rotery button to the # 1 plug it has gotten better but still wont start need to tweak it alittle or something But turning the disrtbuter dosn't help like on a older vehicle!

Ok, you need to remove the no 1 plugs and get the piston up to tdc, compression stroke. Make sure you feel pressure when checking the piston coming up otherwise you are on valve overlap and that will set timing 180 off.

Then set the distributor in with the rotor pointing to number 1 cylinder after it is seated.

The final setting is done with a scan tool to see the cam retard.

How do we tell that there is pressure? And how do we get it to seat all the way down to the oil pump with out bump the starter before we set it to TDC?
