I have a 2003 chevy s10 4x4 with a v6 4.2, I put a new altenator in it now do I need to reset the computor?

I put in a new altenator and it won't start. I was told the fuel pump went out, but it started twice within a weeks time ran for about 2 mins and died. all it does is spin but wont catch.I checked the fuses they are fine.

it sounds like a failed pump. have the pressure checked to confirm.
