gas odour

2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU

I have a 2003 malibu 3.5L.When the car is fueled up there is a smell of gasaline from the car, but no sign of leak on the ground, and if the tank is only half filled there is no smell. I'd appreciate it if you would tell me whatit might be. Thank You. patrick

a leak can be small enough to not drip on ground but evaporate before it does. and maybe there is a problem with tank vent system causing fumes. next oil change, fill up and have a look underneath while on hoist.
