Had a drip of transmission fluid for nearly a year (after having rebuilt engine installed), but still had fluid as per dip stick. Was driving on highway and car over heated and radiator/hoses burst. Mechanic didn't look at radiator or transmision but said the fluid on dip stick smelled burnt and that chevys are known to have transmission problems. Car history, had rear-end rebuilt some 20,000 miles ago and installed a rebuilt engine @ 15,000 miles ago. Had a lot of highway driving per year. Bought car brand new, never involved in accident.

not anymore than any other manufacturer. trans fail from lack of maintenance more than anything. take care of it and it will take care of you. keep the fluid level up till you get it diaged and repaired so you do not damage the internals.
