My car started to make a knocking sound while in idle, when I stop or just sit it will stall out.

Is it engine related?

Did you check the oil or run it low?

I checked the oil, and it was about a quart low. But kept doing it. Took to a mechanic and they said it was the cylinder ( never heard of that before). They say I need a new engine or jiffy buy a new car.
