My Ac works on and off.Sometimes it blows clod air and sometimes hot air and I went to two repair shop and was told that the compressor is bad and need to be changed and the cost is over $1200

It worked this evening for a short time blowing very cold air for about 5 mins then it stopped and started to blow hot air. I need to know if the compressor needs to be changed

It might be low on Freon. You would need an evac and recharge machine to diagnose it the correct and safe way. Some facilities will do a evac and recharge at a set price. If you like I can take you step by step on doing the actual repairs yourself but evac and recharge has to been done at a repair facility.

If the a/c is coming and going the most likely cause is the "compressor field coil". If the a/c is still cold when it's working each time the freon level is probably okay. When the a/c quits working shine a flash light down on the compressor and check to see if the clutch is engaged and spinning. I can supply pics if you need me to.
