2002 Volkswagen Passat Recently Put Moter Vw 1 8 Runs Well Most Bugs Worked Out

I recently put a moter in my 2002 vw passat 1.8 runs well and most of the bugs worked out. The problem is when i put the car in gear the indicator on the dash dosent change and the wheels do not spin hense its not going in gear, Is there a computer that controls the shifting of the gears or a relay that may have been fried in the prosses. Had no problems with trans before replacing moter.
