I have a 2002 Volkswagen golf and the trunk unlocks via the key fob but the in door trunk release doesn't work. It is really annoying because i am unable to unlock the trunk without having to turn off my car and use the key fob. The gas tank release functions perfectly. The problem is recent. It functioned oddly before but now no at all. There is no sound of the motor working or anything.

Hello,

It sounds like an issue with the switch in the door.
Since you can operate the trunk with your key fob that means the fuse is good and so is the trunk latch and actuator.
Check the switch for any corrosion or loose connection.

Also check to see if it is getting power to the switch.

Here is a helpful video of replacement of the switch:

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
