Hi, I have 2002 vw golf, 1.4petrol. days ago, oil jauge flashed & beeped red just after I started car, then all flashing/beeping stopped & car seemed fine. Went to garage, garage gave it full service (was due), fixed an oil leak & gave me car back. Said they had found thrust washer which had fallen off, & crankshaft was a bit worn. They put thrust washer back & gave me car back . following day, same flashing +beeping when starting, then alerts stopped and car seemed fine. Back to garage. Said nothing much they can do, & said to keep driving (until engine seizes up & I will need to replace engine, presumably). Does this make sense? Surely there is a better way than to wait for engine to fail!...Don't know anything about cars!! Thanks, Yvanne

no, you cannot. the motor will eventually seize and you will be dead on the road.
