2002 2.0 automatic will not go into reverse until warmed up after driving

2002 2.0 automatic will not go into reverse until warmed up after driving it and getting it warmed up and it shifts real strange like it has to have the rpm's higher that it sound's like it should be and some times when it shifts it jerks back and forth like a ball with water in it. Mike

it is slipping internally. check the fluid. the filter may be clogged but it sounds like there is more damage from the slipping.
