when the car gets to 2500rpms and the gas is released the engine will tick till it gets to 2000rpms. I put oil in it and it stopped then about a half hour later while driving it started making a loud knocking sound. The sound is coming from the top end i took the valve cover off and nothing is abnormal and nothing is loose what might cause this??

If the engine was very low on oil, you may have damaged the cam bearings. Remove the valve cover and check to see if there are loose rocker arms. Also, check the cam for wear. The actual bearings require that you remove the cam to check it.
