my heat goes cold when i come to a stop and warms back up when i start driving again

It sounds like you are simply low on coolant. Check your coolant level and make sure it is properly filled. If it is, then you should remove and test your thermostat because it may not be working properly. If it is the thermostat, it is a pretty cheap fix.
