when we start the car we smell gasoline and while it is idoling. We have kifted the hood and don't see anything wet on the engine.

Check all around the injectors for leaks/ Also, check from the fuel pump to the engine for leaks as well. Remember, gas will evaporate quickly, so you either have to leave the engine running when you check it or shut it down and check for anything within 30 seconds.
