Can I bypass the air conditioning using a shorter belt?

The a/c compressor/bearing is going on my car. Can I bypass the a/c or "disconnect" it as a temporary fix?

Disconnect it or get a bypass pulley

Compressor uses its own belt. Removing it should do.
