Just to add to this one if it dies and then cranks over and wont start it is most likely the crank shaft position sensor. Really common on the 1998-2002 S model saturns I have replaced a ton of them for that problem. Next time it wont start check for spark if there is none I would test the crank shaft position sensor. You can use a ohms meter to test it should read around 800 ohms. All the ones I have seen test bad read as a open no ohms value.I would put my money on the crank shaft position sensor. When the fuel pumps fail on those it doesnt restart usually. Sometimes banging the tank will start the pump working again but other then that when they go they go. Let me know what you find.
