I had my intake gaskets redone to prevent any leaking. a few months after i got it back the rods started knocking . I took it to anouther repair shop . And was told the upper gasket was leaking . I call the shop that did the work on the intake and was told they only replaced the bottom gasket not the top one . can you replace the bottom gasket with out damanging the top one ? this is on a 2002 grand prix 3800 v 6 .

If you change the lower gasket, you have to remove the upper first but the upper doesn't seal any coolant from the crankcase so I don't see how it could cause the problem. Those upper intakes leak a lot and they leak into the combustion chamber, not the crankcase.
