2002 Pontiac Bonneville I smell oil in my car after letting the car idle, or warm up in the morning. Any ideas?

Do you have to add engine oil? Check the exhaust manifold, any oil stains? Maybe a valve cover gasket is leaking?

I havent noticed any oil stains, just the smell. Im just hoping to find out if this is a common thing with pontiacs or the 3800 motor. I had a monte carlo z34 before the bonneville, it had over 255000 miles on it and I dont think I ever lost oil. I guess I need to know where to look first, hopefully its not to serious. Thank you for your reply

By the way I haven't had to add oil, but its a quart to a quart and a half low sometimes when the oil gets changed. I usually just get my oil changed when my oil level light comes on in the car

Once there is oil on the exhaust and it heats up, you will smell it.

There could be something leaking on the exhaust even if there isn't any oil spots underneath where I park? I really appreciate your replies thank you
