2002 Peugeot 307 Squeaky brakes

I brought the car a few months ago and it had squeaky brakes, I've since took the wheel off to try and see whether the pads had worn down, turns out they were brand new pads and discs. I can't work out what the problem is can anyone shed some light on the subject

It sounds like they installed cheap brake pads. Cheaper brake pads tend to make more noise due to the more inexpensive material they use to make them. I don't know which brands your country offers but I would probably swap them out for some higher end brake pads. Ask your local parts store which ones are quiet and he should give you some options.
