I am trying to replace the alternator. I have remove all two belt. I have also remove the two screws that secure the alternator but it is still firm in place. What other thing do I need to remove? Should I remove the power steering pump that is just above the alternator also? What else can I do there is not much space around the alternator in this vehicle?

There is a small plastic wiring connector that is set inside a plastic sheath that I cannot figure out how remove. Please help.

Thanks,

You see the small tang in the connector from the picture? Insert a small standard screwdriver and push it inward to release the clip while pulling upward.

Here is a guide that will show you the steps to replace the alternator and diagrams below to show what it will be like you car:

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers

Thanks for your reply. Besides not having much room for hands and/or tools, I think I know which tab you are referring to. However, not sure which way to move or pry it. I do not really want to break it and the wires are so thin that I fear if I pull too hard they may snap.

In addition, I was wondering if the entire plastic connector comes out or just the inner part. It appears that the inner part has movable plastic little arms or tabs.

Thanks again.

Once the tang has been released the entire plug will come out.

Six cylinder four wheel drive manual.

Just replaced my battery one week ago. While driving yesterday my emergency brake light and battery light came on and my temperature gauge pegged at hot. When I lifted the hood it sounded like the battery was boiling.

If the battery is boiling best get to the alternator checked out fast. It is overcharging the battery and could explode.
