Yeah this all happened after I had to replace my seatbelt on the drivers side. Ever since then I have had that blinking airbag light.

If you replaced the seat belt because of the flashing air bag light, you will need the codes cleared, the light will not reset itself.
If the light started flashing after replacement, check all connections then have the light cleared

If you have seatbelt pre tensioner you have trigged a code when the plug was unhooked, clear the code with a scanner and it should be OK.

So I'm assuming that this "scanner" is only used by mechanics in their shops. Not something I can pick up at Auto Zone is it?

Some of the larger parts stores will do a free scan for you, best ring and see if one near you can do this, a scanner worth having will cost $$ top of the range are in the thousands.
