2002 Mitsubishi Lancer Started Car This Morning Tried Take Off Kept Stalling

Started car this morning and tried to take off but it kept stalling. Temperature guage was well below the C. It took awhile for the temperature the come up. Once it came up I was able to take off. What would be the cause of this?
