2002 Mitsubishi Lancer-Wheels locked

Wheels on car locked,shifting does not unlock wheels even in neutral. Vehicle has automatic transmission. Is this a transmission problem or ?

Front and rear wheels locked? any prior problems ? noises? recent repair work?

Only front wheels locked (veh has front wheel drive).At stop light, went to take off and vehicle wouldn't move, put in neutral and still wouldn't move and could not be pushed. Car has less than 100,000 mi, no prior problems and no recent repairs. Trans fluid (1/2 qt) put in when wheels originally locked up then driven about 500 ft wheels locked up again.

Check to see if shift cable is attached.does engine REV up in gear?
