The thermastat will occassionally start from cold before rising when I start my car and I could hear a faint ticking. thank you in advance

I think that you may be confusing the thermostat with something else, the thermostat is in the cooling system and is always shut with a cold engine and opens up as the engine warms up to aid coolant circulation, what are you concerned about exactly.
