2002 Mercury Sable Turn Blower On Inside Car C Compressor Getting Red Hot

When I turn the blower on inside the car, the a/c compressor is getting red hot at the a/c clutch,whether I turn the heater or air condition on. If i turn it off the car seems to run fine. Is this a sign that the compressor or a/c clutch has/ is going out? If i dont turn on the blower(heat or a/c) do i need to replace it right away?

the clutch may be set to close and needs the air gap made largere. it may need a new a/c clutch.
