Why does my car smoke and make a loud humming noise when driving with the ac on?

I turned on the cold air, heard a loud humming noise. turned off the ac and white smoke started coming out from the under the hood.

See if the ac compressor is siezing up see if the center of the ac compression turns without a lot of effort.Let me know what you find.
