replacing valve cover gasket, how do i get rid of oil puddle in spark plug #4(next to firewall)?

replacing plus, oil puddle in #4 plug(next to firewall)
have not removed plug yet, how to i get rid of oil puddle
is it safe to remove plug and let it drain?

I would use a rag to cover while using compressed air to blow the oil out. If the amount of oil is minimal, it is ok to let it drain into the cylinder when the spark plug is removed.
