I was having a problem with my key getting stuck in the ignition of my 2002 Kia Spectra. The key would start the car but about 50 % of the time I could not remove it. I replaced the ignition lock assembly like I had done once before in the car and when I did the car would not start. I disconnected more module plugs then i needed to but put them all back together. I put the old ignition lock assembly back in that was working before but it would not start the car. I put the new one back in and the car would not start. I was wondering if I either have a bad electrical connection or if I need to have a new computer code put in? The car key does not have a computer chip?

I'm sorry but you will need to take you to Kia.they will put it on analyzer and reset the new cylinder to the proper code.this is a safety feature so someone can't just come along and replace your cylinder and start your car. It should be a simple reprogramming charge to do this.

Good Evening Cadieman, thank you for your reply. I thought that might be the problem but what threw me was I replaced the ignition lock assembly in about 2009 when the key broke off in the cylinder and I could not get it out. Can't remember if it was because I may have disconnected the battery when I did it or perhaps I got lucky and the keys were the same code. Could the problem be anything else or are you pretty sure that is what happened this go around. I greatly appreciate your help and prompt response this is an awesome website.

contact Kia parts department and ask them if there keys have different codes. Then all you have to do is go in there and have them cut a key from the old key code to fit the new cylinder.

Good Evening, I appreciate your reponse. I wil do that tomorrow. Just have one question shouldn't the old ignition key mechanism have worked when I reinstalled it as it had the old key code? I will call the service department tomorrow.

not if the old cylinder was faulty.

the old cylinder should work if it was reinstalled properly.what did the dealer say???

The dealer just started looking at it they asked me how many miles the car had on it cause they said the battery is dead. I will know more today
