2002 Kia Sedona Shift Lever Very Stiff Seems Button Does Engage Enough Make Work

the shift lever is very stiff and seems like the button does not engage enough to make the lever work freely and thus causing it to not move into a gear easily at all. is there a linkage problem with the shifting lever or is this a transmission problem....it is s****** thru the gears fine when i engage in to drive and go...running smooth..seems like itis just the lever.

It is the lever. The push button is not traveling far enough to navigate the slots and some adjustment should rectify it.
