In my 2002 KIA Optima can it ( oil pump replacement) be done by a week-end warrior. and approximately for how much. Some guy wants to sell me one for $1500 wlling to get it out of his garage for $850.
Is there anything I should ask to look at on the engine before I commit to trying to fix it?

It calls for 5.2 hours labor and the pump (factory price) is 287.00. I think that is way too much for the job. Can you do it at home? If you have the mechanical ability to remove the oil pan, yes. Remove the pan to access the pump. NOTE: On this model, you will need to lift and support the engine to fully remove the pan.
