2002 Jeep Liberty Coil problems

Hi, I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty and one morning I started it and let it run for about 10 minutes. When I went to get in there was a terrible smell and you could see the fumes. After taking it to a family friend/home mechanic he said that one of the main harnesses melted and caused the coil to explode. We bought a brand new cool and when he put that one in it exploded too. Do you know why this coil would keep exploding?

check to see how much voltage there is and if harness melted see if it has been repaired like it should and not touching anything

I have never seen an ignition coil explode before, I would change out the spark plugs which should fix it, here is how to change out the ignition coils correctly. Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response of any problems so we can see what to help you with.
