Wife went to store --got back in car--key will not turn at all. Can turn steering wheel, shifter won't move.

Either the key cylinder is bad or safety lock.

Call a locksmith to come out and repair.

Try yanking hard in both directions on the steering wheel while trying to turn the key with your other hand. If that releases it, just park with the wheels straight next time.
