Had throttle body replaced by our mech. No more than 6 mo ago. It was replaced with a used one. Mech says it went bad and needs replaced!! Not cheap. He only works on british cars. Is this normal

If it was a used part, it is very possible. Although a new part is more expensive, you will get a warranty with it, so it may be a better idea to go that route.
