fan does come on right away

should radiator cooling fan automatically come on when you start the car and stay on, or only when reaches certain temperature? Fan will actually not come on for quite awhile, ran a hot wire to test and fan works, small coolant leak and sometimes coolant reservoir back flows to radiator, but only showing half way mark on temperature gauge.

The coolant fan should come on right before it reaches 220deg's-Might want to test the coolant temperature sensor-

It will also come on when the A/C compressor engages which could happen in defrost and some other modes in order to remove moisture from the air.
