a/c sounds like it kicks on but no air comes out

I have a 2002 Infiniti I35 and the a/c sounds like it kicks on but no air comes out of vents would a dirty filter cause this to happen? the a/c does not blow air through the vents but it sounds like it kicks on when I turn it on the fans in the engine compartment start would the a/c filter under the glove box being dirty cause it not to blow in the cab

not likely. it would have to be really dirty? how long have you owned car?
